When was the last time you lived your life, like it was your last day on earth?

Do you ever feel like no matter how much you accomplish you’re never caught up?

Do you have dreams and aspirations that seem to be slipping away the older you get?

Is stress starting to become less motivating and more debilitating?

It’s time to take a step back,

create some space

and reset.

It’s time for a RETREAT.

Take four days out of the year just for you…

Imagine waking up to the sounds of gentle rain tapping against broad banana leaves and a rooster faintly crowing in the distance. As you get out of bed, sliding into your comfiest clothes, the sun peaks out and warms your face. You grab your journal and head outside to a grassy clearing that overlooks a big blue ocean and one of the most incredible waterfalls you’ve ever laid your eyes upon. A wooden lounge chair under a tree lures you over for your morning meditation, alone, with no interruptions. It’s the first effortless meditation practice you’ve had in months. When you are finished you make some notes in your journal and head off to a nourishing breakfast. Towers of sliced Maui pineapple, apple bananas, mango and papaya cascade around trays of freshly toasted bread, local farm eggs, delicate baby greens and creamy avocado. The smell of freshly brewed coffee is intoxicating and water with lemon wedges and charcoal sea salt has been laid out to assist in your daily detox. After breakfast you saunter over to listen to a talk on yogic philosophy while you digest your meal, preparing for the invigorating yoga flow to follow. Reenergized from practice you head back to your room, throw on your bathing suit and take a dip in the pool before lunch. After a delicious farm-to-table feast you join the others for a tour of the property’s farm, where the ingredients you have just eaten are grown.

Picture yourself…

…laying down for a relaxing massage. The fragrance of plumeria flowers fills the air as a gentle breeze passes through. The only thing you are enjoying more than the massage in this moment, is the thought of taking a nap in that hammock you’ve been eyeing outside. Feeling rejuvenated after your siesta, you sit in on an afternoon lecture covering the basic principals of Ayurveda called: Radiant Health. Inspired, you jot down some tips in your journal to incorporate into your daily routine once you get home. From there, you stretch your body back out with a gentle asana flow followed by a blissful yoga nidra meditation practice. As you lie on the ground, covered in soft blankets you fade in and out as you are guided through enchanting visualizations by the soothing voice of a highly trained meditation expert. When you finally come to, feeling like you have melted and re-solidified just enough to slowly ooze out the door, you notice the enticing smells wafting out of the kitchen as a hearty Indian-spiced vegetable and lentil stew simmers on the stove and a crunchy green salad is being garnished with fresh cilantro, basil and mint. As dinner lingers on, a light discussion is initiated and coffee mugs of warm chai-spiced golden milk are passed around. Feeling all warm and fuzzy inside you walk back to your room giggling after almost tripping over a frog who is now looking back up at you like a deer in headlights. Ribbit! You smile and say goodnight to the frog, thinking to yourself, this has been the best day ever.

Transformation will happen.

It’s inevitable, a light switch will click on or you’ll have an “aha moment.” Whatever you want to call it, it will take shape in some form while you are on retreat. Why? Because of the space you have created.

Wellness retreats are 100% about creating space in your life. It is in this space where you will start to look at your life with new eyes. You will start to get clear on what it is you want and need to do next. A plan will formulate all on its own. You will learn new things. You will learn how to use new tools, develop new practices and discover more about yourself than you could ever imagine.

It is not a coincidence that many people adopt healthy new habits after going on retreat. That is the intention. Meditation and journaling is encouraged every morning first thing when you walk up. Daily exercise, thoughtful discussions, self-reflection, time for play and rest are all things you can have in your life back home, if you build them into your routine. Take the lessons you learn on retreat with you and you will see your life transform before your very eyes.

Our accommodations in paradise…

Hale Akua Farm & Eco-Retreat Center is hidden amongst the vibrant jungle and rugged cliffside of Haleakala, Maui’s dormant volcano. Your home for four days overlooks 30 miles of pristine Hawaiian coastline and a gushing 150 foot waterfall. The air is cooled by ocean trade winds in the summer and has some of the purest air to breathe on the island. Because of it’s remote location the moon and stars are brighter than you could ever imagine at night!

There are several cozy houses to stay in, that all have a personality of their own. Buddy up in a shared room to enjoy your experience with a loved one or new friend. Or, relish in some much needed time alone with a private room. The property has a solar heated salt water swimming pool overlooking the garden, a hot tub overlooking the ocean, an infra-red sauna and state of the art yoga studio.

The palm tree lined sustainable farm is abundant with organic fruits, vegetables and friendly chickens that produce eggs for us daily. The farmers are kind and generous and love showing us around their digs.

The food, OMG the food.

If you have ever dreamt of having a private chef around to fix you nutritious meals (that actually taste good!) three meals a day, then you’re about to have your dreams come true.

Chef Sarah Burchard (a.k.a. The Healthy Locavore) has been cooking professionally for almost 20 years. She is an advocate for organic small farms and embodies the phrase: support local. Her unwavering commitment to sourcing the highest quality ingredients, grown as nearby as possible, are only outshined by her attention to detail and dedication to providing an “under promise, overdeliver” approach to hospitality.

Surprise off-the-menu treats are practically guaranteed. Each one of them composed with a thoughtful approach to health with a locavore sensibility. Her luxurious coconut-chia seed pudding paired with tropical fruit and homemade cardamom-spiced granola is quickly becoming a fan favorite amongst our retreat guests. And don’t get us started on her carefully curated salads––a symphony of flavors, aromas and textures (not to mention, her salad dressing game is on point). Prepare to feel well nourished and completely taken care of.

Deepen your yoga practice…

Ever wonder if you are doing a pose right? Or what about those transitions in and out of postures? Usually there isn’t enough time to dive deep into the mechanics of yoga asana in a regular yoga class. But, on retreat there’s plenty of time to work on your personal practice with teachers who are around morning, noon and night.

This year we’re offering classes at various levels, so that you can pick and choose what your body needs in the moment. Whether your intention is to learn more about proper posture alignment so you can have a safer practice, or you are an experienced yogi looking to flex your muscles and flow, there’s a class for you.

One of the things that makes Yoga Unplugged Retreats stand out from the others is the time we set aside to discuss the philosophy of yoga and how to apply it to everyday life. No asana class will be complete without a deeper understanding of how these ancient techniques improve your overall quality of life. Our goal is to support your needs and growth, so you feel more comfortable with your practice and enjoy every minute of it.

Get a massage…

If you would like to enhance your retreat experience you are welcome to schedule a 1-hour Swedish massage with our guest massage therapist––Kat Michelle. Kat offers a wide range of healing methods and modalities from many different theories and cultures. Her massages are deeply therapeutic and rejuvenating. It is not uncommon to receive cupping and hot stones during a Kat Michelle treatment.

“My entire back feels released, I’m more balanced and walking more in alignment,” was the feedback we received last year from one of our guests.

There are limited time slots open Friday, Saturday and Sunday to book with Kat. The cost is $85 and can be paid in cash at the time of your appointment.

You will receive a link for booking after your retreat registration is complete.

Bring your journal

This will be an invaluable tool on your journey of self-reflection and inquiry. Starting day one you will learn how to make your journaling more effective, so you can begin to manifest what you desire out of life.

Prepare to meditate

Meditation is a big focus of our retreat. Both silent and led meditations will be threaded throughout your entire stay. This is an excellent time to build that daily meditation habit you have been trying so hard to implement.

Learn new things

This retreat is designed to feed your mind, body and soul on all levels. This includes educational talks on Ayurvedic principals and how to apply them to your daily life, a farm tour that will teach you why it is important to buy local and organic and learning new techniques, such as Myofacial Release, to keep your muscles and joints healthy in the privacy of your own home. We guarantee you will leave with some new useful nuggets.
